Frequently Asked Questions About
Guided DolorClast® Therapy

What is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave Therapy is an innovative cost-effective therapy that can target specific pain in the bones, joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments. It’s a non-invasive and safe treatment that gives significant or total relief of pain in patients suffering from musculoskeletal disorders.
Shockwaves are high-powered sound waves that can transfer energy from outside the body to inside the body. When you’re treated with Shockwave Therapy at Optimum Wellbeing Centre.

  • Your practitioner will use a hand-held device connected to a machine that turns compressed air into sound waves
  • They’ll apply some light pressure and move the device over the area that requires treatment. It takes about 5 minutes to deliver a single treatment
  • Gel is applied to the skin beforehand to help transmit the shockwaves through the skin

One of the big benefits of Shockwave Therapy is that you can heal quickly as shockwaves stimulate the body to heal itself. Shockwaves pass through the body without breaking the skin, unlike an injection which can cause damage to the tissue treated over time.
This makes it an ideal treatment for athletes and from anyone suffering from chronic pain. Experience the same treatment that many Olympians and professional athletes use so they can heal and go back to play quickly.

What is High Power Laser Therapy?

strategy to manage disabling pain is to take NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs). Unfortunately, these continue to be recommended and prescribed routinely despite the common risk of adverse effects such as addiction, bleeding, and gastric mucosa damage.
The DolorClast® High Power Laser was developed to create an effective (non-addictive) and well-tolerated form of pain management for patients suffering from acute pain or struggling with a low pain threshold. Local anaesthesia is not required, even when treating highly painful musculoskeletal disorders. It is effective especially in the treatment of sports injuries e.g. joint distortion, herniated disc, neck pain etc.
High power laser is based on the principles of low-level laser however the high power and specially selected EMS DolorClast® 905nm wavelength allows for deep tissue penetration and through a natural process of energy transfer it significantly speeds up healing and tissue regeneration without heating them.
The DolorClast® High Power Laser decreases the amount of Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) – a fatty acid derivative responsible for mediating acute inflammation. When released in the tissues, PGE2 leads to dilatation and increased permeability of blood vessels, which in turn manifests clinically as an acute inflammation and accompanying redness and swelling. By mimicking the effect of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) while protecting patients from their side-effects and possible addiction, the DolorClast® High Power Laser 905 nm wavelength effectively kick-starts the healing process.
A powerful analgesic effect will be felt 5 minutes after the end of the DolorClast®
High Power Laser treatment and is likely to last up to 72h. In addition, the decrease of acute inflammation kicks in 60 minutes after the end of the laser session, leading to quick absorption of edema and faster healing in the damaged tissue.

How many Guided DolorClast Therapy sessions will i need?

Beneficial effects of GDT on pain and mobility are often experienced from the very 1st treatment session and the long-term healing benefits continue for months after your last treatment.
The number of sessions will vary depending on your pathology, pain severity and chronicity but an average of 3 to 8 sessions of combined therapies is often required.
